Snow and Sunset – what an amazing weekend away

This weekend we booked to go to the Brecon Beacons to celebrate my birthday. In light of recent events (Our Happy Place), we very nearly cancelled it but decided a change of scene would do us the world of good.

Before setting off (at stupidly early on a Saturday morning) we did a bit of research and decided that we would head to Merthyr Tydfil and then drive straight into the Beacons from there. The journey was super easy and we got to cross the Severn Bridge which none of us had done before.

Our Happy Place

After a lovely walk/ride along the Rodwell Trail last weekend,  we were brought back down to earth with a bang on Monday when we received the sad news that TJ’s great grandad had passed away. He was 94 years old and one of the kindest, most generous and caring men you could have ever met. He adored TJ and the feeling was completely mutual.

As you can imagine, this week has been tough. Losing someone you love is hard enough, but nothing prepares you for having to try to explain to a 4 year old that he won’t see “great big grandad” again. When we first told him, his reply was, “I wish I had a magic wand to stop you both crying and to make grandad better again”. Sometimes life through the eyes of a child is so beautiful and naive.

Home Life Project – January 2017

One of our New Year Resolutions was to try to keep more of a record of our daily life – the little things that make you smile and the things that sometimes get lost in the hussle and bussle of the daily routines. We have been following Maybush Studio for a while on Twitter and Instagram and have often considered joining in with the Home Life Project but have never quite got round to it.  We decided that this month would be different and hopefully we will be able to continue to link up throughout the year.

If you’ve read our blog before, you’ll know that we love crafting or “making” as TJ calls it. On Saturday morning, we took our trip to the Dorset Scrapstore but due to a birthday party, we didn’t have time to look at our haul and promised TJ that we would look at it on Sunday morning. Our 5:55am wake up call meant that he must have been dreaming about “making” all night  so that was the first activity of the day.
